Vaishakha Purnima As Buddha Purnima Or Vesak
Vaishakh Purnima is also known as Buddha Purnima, as it commemorates the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha. On this day, two major incidents took place in Lord Buddha’s life. He received enlightenment in Bodhgaya and his ascension in Kushinagar.
Lord Buddha taught us the spiritual concepts of learning and asked devotees to follow them. Hindus believe Lord Buddha is an incarnation form of Lord Vishnu, who was born 2583 years ago. It is an auspicious day for Buddhists and Hindus. On this day, devotees visit and worship the bodhi tree. It is said that the Bodhi tree is the tree where Gautam Buddha preached his enlightenment and also ascended on the same day.
Devotees offer flowers to Lord Buddha’s idol and lit up candles in front of it. Devotees worship him to seek blessings for inner peace and tranquillity. They meditate and chant the mantras as to say, practising the peace they were expecting from Buddha. Some devotees also practice fast and offer fruits and sweets to the deity.
